Two years ago today I had to say "see you later" to my best buddy, Delilah. She is the yellow lab seen in most of the photos I use and in many ways she was the inspiration behind Active Dogs.
Delilah suffered from a hormonal disorder called Addison's Disease. This disorder is caused by a deficiency in the production of adrenal gland hormones. These hormones help regulate water and electrolytes, as well as the body's response to stress.
Delilah needed almost constant attention in her last few months. So many medications, trips to the vet, fluids, and diet changes. Had I not had the support of friends and family her care would have been very difficult to do alone. And taking a vacation or needing to go out of town would have been impossible.
The special needs dogs (and the normal needs dogs) deserve the best! We know how terrible it feels to have to leave your animals, sick or healthy, while at work or out of town. Our hope is that the attention and care we give the dogs we work with will eliminate the stress felt by the dogs themselves and their owners. Active Dogs has a love for the special needs babies, and we hope all of them get to have the life and adventures of Delilah! She will always be missed.
